Siddharth Balwani, an Intel employee, was introduced Net Impact by an enthusiastic roommate who thought the organization's commitment to social and environmental causes might be something that interested him. And indeed, it did! Sid has been with Net Impact Austin since its inception, helping to launch the chapter in 2008 and currently serving as the Chair of the Community Impact Committee.

Looking back, Sid says “I have learned a tremendous amount over the past two years. Net Impact was my first introduction to the concept of using market based approaches to creating social good. In my role as Community Impact Chair, I have worked with a lot of wonderful non-profits to enable them to be more effective." (see project on NI website) "This has allowed me to see first hand how techniques from the business world can make non-profits more efficient, and how creating the right incentives can really drive social good."

He credits this experience with clarifying his career vision: "My long term goal has also been shaped by my work here; I want to pursue a company focused on providing products and services targeted towards the Bottom of the Pyramid".

Sid finds that volunteering at Net Impact provides the right mix of hands-on work and societal impact. Net Impact "is a great chance to meet interesting people who share a similar commitment, provides a positive means to impact the local community and gives me the opportunity to work towards causes I am passionate about."
