Speaker: Hamlin Metzger, Sr. Manager of Corporate Responsibility, Best Buy
Discussion Topic: Successful corporate social responsibility programs can be launched at any level in an organization – from a top-down mandate to a grass-roots initiative. Hear one example of how a small group of dedicated employees encouraged Best Buy to launch a corporate responsibility program. Hamlin Metzger, Sr. Manager of Corporate Responsibility at Best Buy, will describe the change management strategies and tactics used to promote socially responsible business practices. He will discuss the techniques that helped the program move from a volunteer lead initiative to an official program with a dedicated staff and will also cover the pitfalls faced along the way.
About Hamlin: Hamlin Metzger is the senior manager of corporate responsibility for Best Buy Co., Inc., a multinational retailer of technology and entertainment products and services. He overseas the management of Best Buy’s corporate responsibility program, including performance measurement, reporting, stakeholder engagement and project management. Prior to his formal role in corporate responsibility, Hamlin co-founded the Best Buy Social Responsibility employee network – a grass-roots, volunteer group that promotes the adoption of socially responsible business practices. In addition, Hamlin was instrumental in the formation of the Minnesota CSR Forum which brings together corporations to address common challenges in the field of corporate responsibility.
Hamlin is a 10 year veteran of Best Buy, holding several positions in merchant and operational functions before moving into corporate responsibility. Prior to joining Best Buy, Hamlin was with adidas where he served as an apparel buyer.
Hamlin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College and is one of the first individuals to earn Corporate Citizenship certification from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.
